How to Maintain a Polyaspartic Floor

In today’s blog we are going to review what a polyaspartic floor is and talk about what is needed for its maintenance.

What is polyaspartic flooring?

Polyaspartic flooring is an elastomer polymer. In simple terms, this means that it is a substance made of very large molecules that string together with many repeating units, and the substance has elastic properties.

This type of solution is poured typically over an existing concrete floor. The polyaspartic flooring is extremely durable, does not change color over time or in the presence of UV light, is not slippery, and does not off-gas VOCs.

Maintenance

The maintenance of a polyaspartic floor is very simple. You would want to address any chemical spills right away by soaking them up with something absorbent, even kitty litter, and then sweeping it up. You can spot clean as needed.

For regular maintenance, sweeping regularly with a soft bristle broom is recommended. Sweeping up dust and debris prevents that debris from scratching the floor and damaging it. Sweeping and/or vacuuming will keep the surface of the floor smooth which in turn increases the service life of the floor.

How often you wash the floor depends on how much wear and tear the floor gets. For most people a weekly washing is sufficient. There are premixed commercial preparations that you can use with water, or you can use ammonia and water. If the floor is not very dirty, just plain warm or hot water works well, as water is a universal solvent. Never mix more than one cleaning solution at a time.
